Declaration of Independence
I just noticed this and I'm not sure why it is but perhaps y'all can give your best guess as to why it is. The thing I noticed is that in the US declaration of independence the word "united" in the phrase "united States of America" is never has its initial capitalized.

Perhaps "united" was meant to emphasize the words "States of America" or the writer just mistyped it?

Yeah, it's to signify that the States (in the independent State sense) are united under one Nation now.
